Pre-K

This will be Miss Sarah Wallace’s second year as our Pre-K teacher. Miss Sarah is currently working on an Associate of Arts degree in Early Education. She is from Hickman County and attends East Hickman Baptist Church. Preschool students respond well to Miss Sarah’s calm demeanor and structured schedule. Miss Sarah loves sharing Bible stories with her preschool class. Her favorite Bible verse is 1 Thess. 3:13.

Mrs. Ginger Huffines assisted in the pre-k classroom last year and will be teaching the preschool class this year. Mrs. Ginger has three children of her own and enjoys working with younger children.

Pre-K (4-year olds): Our Pre-K class is for students who will be 4-years old by August 15 and plan to attend kindergarten next year. The Pre-K class at GTCS prepares students for kindergarten, using Saxon Early Learning, in which children’s needs and abilities are fully respected. Children thrive through a combination of predictable routines, a safe, nurturing environment, and high expectations. Exposure to many interesting concepts, along with a strong emphasis on oral language development and classroom discussion, enhance children’s vocabulary acquisition, boost their self-esteem and self-confidence, and prepare them for later school success. Additionally, Abeka phonics gives students the opportunities to begin recognizing words and primes them for reading.

Preschool (3-year olds): Our preschool class is for students who will be 3-years old by August 15 and plan to attend kindergarten in two years. This class allows students to learn through teaching, play, and hands-on activities, which include sensory bins, center activities, and language and math manipulatives.

Activities: Students in preschool and pre-k look forward to daily chapel, weekly themes, drama and music classes, daily recess, occasional field trips, and in-school special days and events. Special events may include visits from area emergency personnel (EMTs, police officers, firefighters), health personnel (dental hygienist), and news personnel (Channel 4’s Snowbird and meteorologist). Special days may include in-school beach days and spirit week (dress up) activities.

4-Day School Week: 3- and 4-year old preschool/pre-K students are required to attend class 4 days per week at GTCS. Our school week is Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., with extended care available as early as 6:00 a.m. and as late as 5:45 p.m. Our Friday enrichment care option is available from 7:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. for those who desire a 5-day-per-week option.

Parent Involvement: We encourage parent involvement at GTCS. We are thankful for the parents who have partnered with us for the purpose of educating their children, and we encourage them to be involved in classroom projects, trips, activities, and the school’s Parent Teacher Fellowship (PTF). Parents are able to see teacher lesson plans each week by using their RenWeb login.
